Volunteers are the heart of AIDNW. With just one paid staff member to manage programs and oversee operations, AIDNW is a lean and wonderful community of people with hearts full of love for service to humanity.

The difference your involvement makes is measured one person, and one gesture at a time. Whether it’s writing letters through our Pen-Pal program, engaging in conversation to instill hope and connection in Visitation, gathering books and games for detainees’ recreation enjoyment, or leveraging your interests and professional expertise by joining our Development, Events, or Communication committees, there are countless ways to make a meaningful impact.

Volunteer with Immigrants in Detention

Visitation

Visit immigrants in detention while they await their court dates. Visitation helps combat the loneliness, frustration, and boredom that come with long periods of detention.

Pen-Pals

Write letters to encourage, uplift, and build connection by providing emotional support and a listening ear.

Books & Puzzles

Collect and deliver books and puzzles to provide detainees stimulation and fight boredom.

Deportation Bags

Collect, sort, and organize correctly-sized, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes to give to those who are being deported.

Volunteer with Immigrants Upon Release

Welcome Center

Greet newly-released immigrants at the AIDNW Welcome Center RV, provide clothing and food, and help coordinate onward travel arrangements.

Transportation

Drive newly-released immigrants to the airport, train or bus station, or safe local housing.

Host Homes

Provide safe housing and warm meals for one night or a few days through our partnership with World Relief Western Washington‘s Host Home program.

Committee, Outreach & Office Volunteers

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for keeping our volunteers, donors, and partners informed and sharing our impact. They compile immigrant and volunteer stories, publish our monthly newsletter, contribute website and social media content, and coordinate on fundraising campaign and event marketing.

Development Committee

The Development Committee is responsibility for capacity-building and raising the revenue needed to fund our programs, services, and staff. They plan and lead fundraising campaigns and events, manage sponsorships and grants, lead outreach to faith and community partners, and manage donor relationships.

Outreach Volunteers

Help inform the community about the immigration crisis locally and nationally and the ways AIDNW provides support to those impacted. Volunteers may present for faith, civic, or corporate audiences, or table at community events.

Office Volunteers

Our Office volunteers provide much-needed administrative support to our single staff member by answering calls, process volunteer applications, supporting the Phone Funds program, filing and organizing, and other light office work.
